Assemblyman José R. Peralta
Queens Assembly District #39

Dear Friend,

As we look back on the year 2003, we can say that much was accomplished and, at the same time, acknowledge that there is much work left to do. We can never be satisfied with the status quo. Every need of life must be supplied for ourselves and our children, whether it be clean streets, services for seniors, or assistance for the disadvantaged. Quality of life must always be maintained, and paramount to this, everyone –from our youngest to our eldest citizens –must have quality health insurance at their disposal.

We recognize the positives in our community and others are beginning to appreciate them too. Many people have learned to cherish the jewel that is Jackson Heights, relish the sparkle of the crystal that is Corona, and savor the elegance of Elmhurst. Our community has become a final destination. It is no longer a passageway to another place. People are finding a home here and they like it.

The year 2003 was a very tough year. We endured massive cuts to services in all areas and experienced one of the worst blackouts in the history of this country. We prevailed, and now we must prepare ourselves for the challenges yet to come. Our community is evolving and changing constantly, and we must endeavor to keep up the pace. Together, we will strive with our utmost courage. We will defeat the unbeatable foe and we will reach the unreachable star.
